Clarice Cliff Original Bizarre Octagonal Plate

Fabulous and rare piece of art deco Clarice Cliff. In 1925, Cliff was given her own studio initially taking defective wares and crudely handpainting them with geometric patterns to hide the faults. Proving very popular, this range was then produced in its own right named Bizarre and ran from 1928 -1935. Often referred to as Original Bizarre by collectors, this meant a range of designs rather than one specific pattern but all typically with thickly applied bright colourways and geometric shapes. This spectacular large plate has a bold pattern of yellow, red, blue, black and white. It is in the less common octagonal shape. In excellent condition with no chips or cracks. Backstamped Bizarre by Clarice Cliff and Wilkinson Ltd with an impressed date mark for 1929. A highly impressive piece of Clarice Cliff pottery. Diameter  - 24 cms.
