Clarice Cliff Original Bizarre Jug

Charming piece of art deco Clarice Cliff. In 1925, Cliff was given her own studio initially taking defective wares and crudely handpainting them with geometric patterns to hide the faults. Proving very popular, this range was named Bizarre and ran from 1928 -1935. Often referred to as Original Bizarre by collectors, this meant a range of designs rather than one specific pattern but all typically with thickly applied bright colourways and geometric shapes. This wonderful jug has a bold pattern of orange, black, yellow, green and white. In excellent condition with no chips or cracks; some minor scratching to the paint as photographed. This has had some very sympathetic restoration done to the spout. Only noticeable under uv light. Backstamped Bizarre by Clarice Cliff and Newport Pottery with an impressed date mark for 1930.
